Joint Growth Network for Independent Filmmakers in Asia

Launching successfully in 2017 with more than 160 participants from 21 countries, Platform BUSAN is a networking platform where independent filmmakers and professionals in Asia share their experience and seek out opportunities for collaboration. By providing the network for young and emerging filmmakers, Busan International Film Festival aims to play the leading role in the future of Asian cinema.
In its second year, Platform BUSAN presents a more practical and wider-ranging program. It kicks off with a talk with a Korean master filmmaker, Lee Chang-dong (POETRY, BURNING). Many other special speakers including Fabrice Aragno and Lee Chatametikool, give lectures on various topics. This year’s program also focuses on widening the visions of Asian filmmakers and helping them tap into a larger market. From Hollywood, a renowned producer Jason Blum (WHIPLASH, GET OUT) and a promising film director Patrick Hughes (RED HILL, THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD) attend for talks. European Film Promotion (EFP) and European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE) also join Platform BUSAN to participate in multiple events, allowing the participants to navigate global collaboration opportunities.
In addition, for the participants’ casual networking, Platform BUSAN Lounge is set up in the Exhibition Hall. Through this program, BIFF provides the talented independent filmmakers a solid platform for their growths as well as a great festival experience.
